Senate Finance Committee Chairman Grassley Sends Letter to HHS on GME Spending

October 23, 2019

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) sent a letter last week to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) requesting information on the funding for several graduate medical education (GME) programs. The stated reason for the request is to understand how HHS ensures that waste in GME funding is eliminated and that funding has proper oversight. The full letter can be found here.

GNYHA will review the letter and discuss it with our allies. We will engage Chairman Grassley’s staff to address the letter’s concerns and to offer our expertise. GNYHA will inform the chairman and his staff about the various oversight and audit processes in place and the need for the nation to have a stronger physician pipeline and the additional GME funding to support it.

We will keep our members apprised of any developments related to Chairman Grassley’s letter and GME funding in general.
