Advocates for school-based health centers (SBHCs) visited Albany last week to urge legislators to protect the program’s $17 million in current funding and to provide an additional $5 million to fully reverse cuts from fiscal year 2017–18.
Many GNYHA member hospitals operate SBHCs, which provide free comprehensive care to hundreds of thousands of at-risk children in public schools.
Assembly Health Chair Richard Gottfried (D-Manhattan) is distributing a letter supporting SBHCs. We urge our members that sponsor SPHCs to contact their local Assembly Members to ask them to sign the letter, which Chairman Gottfried will eventually deliver to Speaker Carl Heastie (D-Bronx).
