New York City voters went to the polls last week. Highlights are below:
- Voters approved ballot measures implementing ranked-choice voting in primary and special elections, strengthening the Civilian Complaint Review Board’s oversight of police conduct, reforming the composition of the Conflicts of Interest Board, allowing the City to create a “rainy day” fund, and giving community boards additional time to review land-use projects
- Public Advocate Jumaane Williams (D) defeated Council Member Joe Borelli (R-Staten Island) to retain his position
- Melinda Katz (D) soundly defeated Joe Murray (R) to become Queens District Attorney following her razor-thin victory in last summer’s Democratic primary
- Council Member Farah Louis (D-Brooklyn) retained her City Council seat, which she won in this year’s special election after Jumaane Williams became Public Advocate
