Oxiris Barbot, MD, to Deliver Keynote at GNYHA Symposium

New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene First Deputy Commissioner Oxiris Barbot, MD, will deliver the keynote address at a GNYHA educational symposium on September 20. The symposium, Improving Collaboration Between Primary Care Residency Programs and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), will be held at the New York Academy of Medicine and culminate a multiyear project to incorporate social determinants of health into primary care residency training through CBO partnerships. The project is funded by the New York State Health Foundation.

Dr. Barbot will discuss the need to develop a future physician workforce that can recognize the importance of addressing social determinants of health in this era of delivery system reform and as the patient population grows in complexity. The symposium will include presentations by GNYHA project participants
