Measles Advisories from DOH and DOHMH

GNYHA provides periodic infectious disease updates to members. Please see information below about recent health alerts from the New York State Department of Health (DOH) and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) about the 2018–19 measles outbreak.

DOH Health Advisory: Update on Measles Outbreak

This health advisory (attached) provides information on the current measles outbreak, recommending that providers remain vigilant. It also reviews measles vaccination recommendations for children in outbreak areas, those travelling outside the US, and women of reproductive age. The advisory also reviews reporting and laboratory testing protocols for patients with suspected measles.

DOHMH Health Advisory #26: Update on Measles Outbreak in New York City

In this health alert, DOHMH announced the end of community transmission of measles following the worst outbreak since 1992. The alert provides details on the outbreak’s extent and urged clinicians to remain vigilant for suspected measles. The alert also reminds providers that New York State no longer allows religious exemptions to vaccination requirements.
