On November 28, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will be held in Midtown Manhattan. GNYHA shares the following key details about the event and related City agency actions.
Event Information
Tomorrow (November 27), the Macy’s organization will stage and prepare balloons near the Museum of Natural History on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Approximately 100,000 spectators are expected to attend the viewing areas between 1:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. On Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, 3.5 million spectators are expected to line the 2.65-mile parade route, which will run from 77th Street and Central Park West to Columbus Circle, then proceed east on Central Park South to 6th Avenue and south to 34th Street. The parade will begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 12:00 noon. Please refer to the map of the parade route for more information. On both Wednesday (November 27) and Thursday (November 28), a number of road closures may impact hospitals located nearby.
City Agency Actions
- Before the parade begins, the Fire Department of the City of New York will deploy resources—including alternate-support apparatus ambulances—along the route to be able to maneuver within the large crowds
- The City’s Unified Victim Identification System will be pre-activated. If an incident were to occur, the public would be directed to call 311 to report persons potentially involved in or missing from the incident.
- New York City Emergency Management’s (NYCEM) Situation Room will be activated from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and Watch Command will monitor the event throughout. NYCEM will also have a liaison at the New York City Police Department’s Joint Operations Center.
Hospitals and health care facilities in the parade route’s vicinity should review emergency plans in case of potential impacts on operations.
