Governor Cuomo made three major appointments last week. Kumiki Gibson, who was most recently senior advisor and general counsel at the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation, is now counsel to the Governor. She also worked at the National Urban League and for Vice President Al Gore.
Elizabeth Garvey, general counsel for the State University of New York, has been appointed special counsel and senior advisor to the Governor. Garvey was previously the top counsel for the State Senate Republican majority.
According to reports, Ms. Gibson and Ms. Garvey will share the responsibilities of the previous counsel to the Governor, Alphonso David, who is now president of the Human Rights Campaign.
The Cuomo Administration also announced that Jesse Campoamor, a former staffer for elected officials and an organizer at 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, had been appointed deputy secretary for intergovernmental affairs.
