GNYHA’s Mass Casualty Response Efforts Detailed at TJC Conference

April 29, 2019

At The Joint Commission’s (TJC) Emergency Preparedness Conference last week, Jenna Mandel-Ricci, GNYHA Vice President for Regulatory and Professional Affairs, and colleagues from the Fire Department of the City of New York, the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, and Mount Sinai West hospital discussed their efforts to develop and continuously improve pre-hospital-to-hospital communication protocols for mass casualty incidents (MCIs) in New York City. The presentation—New York City’s Efforts to Increase Mass Casualty Response Capabilities—described how the implementation of these citywide protocols facilitates more robust hospital-level planning for patient surges related to MCIs. Other City and regional efforts to improve preparedness also were discussed. Attendees received GNYHA’s new Mass Casualty Incident Response Toolkit, which will be shared in hard copy in the coming weeks.
