GNYHA Webinar Tackles Hospital Community Health Program Evaluation

June 3, 2019

GNYHA hosted a webinar last week on the evaluation of the health improvement interventions in hospital community health improvement plans and the selection of measures to use to monitor progress. The webinar was designed to help hospitals report on the progress and success of their community interventions to public policymakers and the public, including the New York State Department of Health (DOH) as part of hospital Community Service Plan submissions.

The webinar included DOH representatives who presented best practice approaches to evaluating hospital community health improvement intervention projects, a model framework for data collection and program evaluation used in chronic disease, and an evaluation method used in a hypertension control program to demonstrate its impact on the population served.

The tools and practices that were shared on the webinar are transferrable to the evaluation of other community health interventions. The webinar was also designed to be useful to all GNYHA member hospitals—including those in New Jersey, Connecticut, and Rhode Island—because the Affordable Care Act requires all hospitals to conduct community health need assessments and develop implementation strategies to address the needs that are identified.

Material and a recording of the webinar is available here.
