A recent GNYHA webinar reviewed the results of the Opioid Medication Safety Self-Assessment® initiative, which the Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) and GNYHA sponsored this past summer.
GNYHA staff presented aggregate results of the ISMP assessment, which is the first to give hospitals data against which they can benchmark their own performance. GNYHA and ISMP staff discussed how hospitals can best interpret their individual reports and prioritize their improvement efforts around opioid safety practices. Some members who completed the assessment also shared their insights, including their interpretations of the results and how they will use the data to enhance their quality improvement efforts. A recording of the webinar and supporting materials are available here.
GNYHA continues to work with its members on opioid safety and stewardship through its Opioid Clinical Advisory Workgroup and the New York State Partnership for Patients (NYSPFP) program. Hospitals interested in learning more about NYSPFP opioid stewardship efforts should contact Jon Salman. For questions about the Opioid Medication Safety Self-Assessment, please contact Jared Bosk.
