GNYHA, Schwartz Center Virtual Rounds Focus on Provider Grief, Perseverance During COVID-19

May 26, 2020

A GNYHA/Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare Virtual Rounds session last week brought together more than 65 health care providers to discuss their emotional experiences while responding to the COVID-19 crisis.

Facilitated by the Schwartz Center’s Chief Medical Officer Beth Lown, the event included Yves Duroseau, MD, Emergency Department Chair at Lenox Hill Hospital; Swana De Gijsel, MD, Hospitalist at NewYork-Presbyterian/Lower Manhattan; and Randi Kaplan, LMSW, Caregiver Center Director at Montefiore Medical Center, who shared personal stories of loss, grief, and perseverance during the COVID-19 crisis. GNYHA will continue to work with the Schwartz Center to provide members with access to these invaluable resources.

The Schwartz Center promotes compassionate patient care by supporting healing relationships via its signature Schwartz Rounds®, which are conducted by and for health care staff. The Rounds provide health care providers from all disciplines the opportunity to connect and offer compassionate support during challenging work-related experiences. The Rounds also reduce feelings of isolation.

Since 2016, GNYHA has promoted and championed the Schwartz Center via GNYHA annual membership fee support.
