GNYHA Presents on “Meaningful Measures” at CMS Quality Conference

February 20, 2018

GNYHA staff attended last week’s Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Quality Conference in Baltimore, MD. CMS quality technical assistance contractors and other stakeholders converge annually to explore ways to develop and apply solutions to America’s most pervasive health system challenges. This year’s theme, “Patients over Paperwork,” provided a platform for CMS Administrator Seema Verma to detail CMS’s efforts to reduce the burdens of the current quality programs.

CMS leaders discussed the progress of the “Meaningful Measures” initiative, which seeks to reduce the number of reportable quality measures by eliminating low-value measures and focusing on outcomes and high-value, patient-reported quality indicators.

GNYHA staff represented the NYS Partnership for Patients (NYSPFP), a joint initiative between GNYHA and the Healthcare Association of New York State under CMS’s Hospital Improvement and Innovation Networks program. GNYHA’s Senior Director of Quality and Patient Safety Durward Rackleff was part of a panel discussion on strategies for reducing racial and ethnic disparities in hospital readmissions.
