GNYHA Kicks Off Series with Stanford Faculty Development Center

June 17, 2019

Last month, GNYHA hosted the Stanford Faculty Development Center’s Tools to Improving Your Clinical Teaching, an evidence-based workshop on effective clinical teaching. Kelley Skeff, MD, taught the workshop and course alumni from GNYHA’s membership facilitated it. Targeted at member teaching hospital faculty, the workshop focused on concepts such as ensuring the long-term retention of knowledge and encouraging residents’ self-propelled learning via videos and interactive discussion. Faculty from 13 hospitals and 12 health systems participated and said they plan to use the tools from the workshop to optimize the learning environments at their home institutions.

The workshop is the first in a faculty development programming series that GNYHA will offer this year and in 2020 as part of our deep commitment to supporting our hospitals’ teaching mission. The next workshop, scheduled for September 6, will cover strategies for providing residents with effective feedback. Future programs will include topics such as models for mentoring and resident remediation.
