GNYHA hosted two sessions last week of the Medical Preparedness and Response to Bombing Incidents course, which is offered by Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) and New Mexico Tech’s Energetic Materials Research and Testing Center. The two-day course was attended by more than 160 physicians, nurses, emergency managers, pre-hospital providers, and law enforcement personnel from across the New York region. Attendees learned how to recognize potential explosive materials and devices, identify suspicious behavior, understand blast physiology, recognize injury patterns associated with bombs, and begin initial treatment of sustained injuries.

GNYHA hosted this course to improve regional readiness for such incidents. With input from course participants and course instructors, GNYHA will consider hosting additional courses offered by TEEX’s and other nationally accredited training entities.
