GME Day of Action

May 17, 2019

The Association of American Medical Colleges’ (AAMC) “GME Day of Action” last Monday included a Capitol Hill briefing to educate Congressional staff on Medicare’s role in developing the physician workforce. GNYHA attended and met with staffers to discuss policies to bolster the physician workforce. GNYHA, AAMC, and many others, including GNYHA members, also amplified the issue on social media.

GNYHA continues to vigorously advocate for the passage of both the Resident Physician Shortage Reduction Act of 2019 (H.R. 1763/S. 348) and the Opioid Workforce Act of 2019 (H.R. 2439). Both bills have bipartisan support on Capitol Hill. The Resident Physician Shortage Reduction Act of 2019 in particular has attracted broad support in the House and already has 75 cosponsors

We encourage our members to contact lawmakers and discuss the need to pass legislation to bolster the physician workforce. Feel free to use GNYHA’s position papers in your advocacy efforts:
