As of today, the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) will discontinue its coordination of remdesivir allocation to states and hospitals. Since June, the Department of Health and Human Services has had an agreement in place with manufacturer Gilead Sciences, Inc. and distributor AmerisourceBergen to oversee and coordinate the allocation of discounted doses of remdesivir. The agreement ends today, so the Federal government will make no further allocations of remdesivir. Beginning October 1, hospitals may purchase unrestricted amounts of remdesivir directly from AmerisourceBergen.
Hospitals can establish an account with AmerisourceBergen via its online ordering portal and contact AmerisourceBergen directly at 877-746-6273 or via e-mail at remdesivir@amerisourcebergen.com.
ASPR will hold a call tomorrow, October 1, to discuss the closeout of the Federal government’s role in distributing remdesivir. Representatives from Gilead Sciences, Inc. and AmerisourceBergen also will be on the call to provide information on access moving forward. Details of the call are as follows:
