COVID-19 Legislation State of Play

October 26, 2020

Discussions between Congressional leadership and White House representatives around a COVID-19 relief package are ongoing. Passing a relief package within the next several months remains a top priority for Congress. White House officials and Congressional leadership—who initially were expected to agree on legislation by the end of July—delayed negotiations for several months to date.

GNYHA continues to work closely with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and the New York Congressional delegation during this critical time. We are advocating for the next bill to include our top legislative priorities: namely, funding for state and local governments, improvements to the Medicare Accelerated and Advance Payments Program, additional funding for the Public Health and Social Service Emergency Fund, and improvements to telehealth and health information technology infrastructure.

We are grateful to our hospital members for their continued outreach to Capitol Hill on legislation that supports hospitals and health care workers. Please feel free to use GNYHA’s updated Phase Four COVID-19 legislative priorities paper in your own advocacy efforts.
