The New York State Department of Financial Services (DFS) issued emergency regulations in the spring requiring New York insurers to waive all cost-sharing for telehealth services and for services required to diagnose or test for COVID-19. These regulations, which were set to expire tomorrow (September 9), will be extended for an additional 60 days.
Providers should continue to refrain from collecting or billing for these cost-sharing amounts. Insurers are required to pay providers the copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles that would otherwise be the patient’s responsibility.
We will share the official DFS notification of the extension as soon as it is released.
