The House and Senate returned to Washington, DC, last week following a two-week recess and will remain in session until Thanksgiving, though the House will be in recess for the first full week of November.
Congress’s top priority over the next month will be to pass spending legislation for Federal fiscal year 2020, which began on October 1, when Congress—unable to reach an agreement on a full-year spending package—passed a stopgap bill to fund the government through November 21. GNYHA will push to include our priorities—specifically, a minimum two-year elimination of the Medicaid disproportionate share hospital (DSH) cuts—in any spending bill that passes.
Congress also continues to work on both drug pricing and surprise billing legislation. GNYHA is engaged on both fronts and will keep our members apprised of any developments on these and other hospital-related issues.
